Travel Recommendations for Your Pero Pero Stay 

To ensure a smooth journey to Karkar Island, please follow these booking guidelines:

• Flight Schedule: We highly recommend booking the earliest possible flight from Port Moresby to Madang, and similarly for your return trip. This minimizes the risk of flight cancellations or delays, allowing you to travel directly to the island on the same day.

• Weather Buffer: Due to the possibility of unforeseen weather conditions affecting sea travel, we strongly advise you to plan your return to Madang town one day before your onward flight. This ensures you won't miss your flight.

• Town to Boat Stop Transfer (Megiar):

  • We have a private transfer arrangement to take you to Megiar, the boat stop on the North Coast (approximately a one-hour drive from Madang town).

  • Alternatively, if you are comfortable with public transport, we can advise you on the bus route and where to catch it in town.

• Sea Transfer to Pero Pero:

  • Your crossing will be arranged on a reliable relative's dinghy. The standard departure time from Megiar is generally between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Please aim to arrive at Megiar by 2:00 PM to wait for the boat.

  • If you prefer an earlier crossing, a private charter of the dinghy can be arranged for an additional fee.
